Laminate Installation In The Greater Boston Area
By understanding the laminate installation process and knowing what to expect on installation day, you can help to ensure that the process is as smooth as possible. Here are a few of the basics of laminate floor installation:
Laminate flooring is installed via a "floating" floor system, meaning a pad sits between the subfloor and the laminate planks/tiles. The laminate sits on the pad and is nailed down or adhered to the subflooring, creating a "floating" effect. This will result in laminate flooring with slightly more give underfoot. The laminate pieces will then lock together. This process involves little if any, glue or adhesives.
Before, During, And After Laminate Installation Day
Before Installation:
- Make sure all furniture has been removed from the room(s) in question.
- Have a plan for your present floor covering. If you're removing it, do so in advance and clean up. If your crew is doing it, ensure they are aware ahead of time.
- Make sure children and pets will not be present on installation day.
- Discuss subflooring preparation with your installation crew.
During Installation:
- Make sure you're present and available on installation day. This is important in case your crew has questions.
- Clarify the timetable with your installation crew.
- Plan on vacating the area during the installation. It will not be safe for recreational use.
- Before your installation, a crew member will do one final walk-through with you.
After Installation:
- Plan to run a fan to remove installation-related smells.
- You may need to stay off your floors for a period as the flooring settles.
